December 2023

The holidays are upon us after another busy term. The visit by Ofsted was a welcome opportunity for the students and staff to showcase our community. We look forward to receiving our report in January and will share this as soon as we can.

We say goodbye to two staff this week. Mrs Spears, MFL teacher has been at the school for over two decades, so I hope you agree that she has earned her retirement! We wish her well for the future as she enjoys more time with her ever-growing family. We also say farewell to Miss Nield, Art teacher. Miss Nield has been with us for a much shorter time but has still made a huge impact. Again, we wish her well for the future. With departures also comes arrivals. Miss Curtis joins us as Head of DT, Miss Wright as Art teacher and Mrs Robinson as a Teaching Assistant. We look forward to working with them.

The annual year 7 trip to the Panto was fun as always. Mr Thomas was a hit with the panto dame, and even outshone them on stage with his red cap and goggles!

Our Christmas lunch was a great success, with huge thanks to Kamilla and Kirsty for all their hard work in preparing over 200 meals. The festive jumpers and hats helped add to the wonderful atmosphere.

Year 11 completed their mock exams and received their results on the same day as their parents’ evening. There were some incredibly positive results and also some that showed the need for continual revision and preparation ahead of the examinations in the summer term. That is why we have mocks in order that students and parents can have a snapshot of where they are and what they need to do moving forward.

The Christmas concert was a lovely evening with singing and a mix of classic and modern Christmas tunes. Thanks to Mr Williams for organising and rehearsing and Mr Thomas for the sound and lighting. Without them, the students would not have been able to shine.

We end the term tomorrow afternoon with the now traditional ‘Stradbroke’s Got Talent’ competition. I am looking forward to seeing students and staff on stage performing and to announcing the winner.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We welcome students back on Friday 5th January 2024 (Week 2).
