Mrs Millar's Blog October 2024

It feels like every half term goes faster than the previous one. It seems only a few weeks ago that I was writing at the end of summer term and yet here we are again approaching a holiday!

As always term has been busy and culminated last night at our Annual Awards Evening. It was fantastic to see so many students receive awards with their families watching on. Our guest speaker Justina Williams’ personal journey was so inspirational, and I hope the students will have been motivated by what she has achieved despite the challenges she has faced.

It was lovely to welcome year 6 students for their taster morning and then in the evening for our Open Evening. A huge thank you to the year 7 students who acted as tour guides. The feedback from our year 6 families about them was incredible.

Two weeks ago, we saw years 10 & 11 students attend the Auschwitz trip. It was an emotional and inspiring experience for everyone who attended. A huge thank you to Mr Thomas and Mrs Rowe for all their hard work to make the trip such a success.

In the same week Mrs Seeman, Assistant Headteacher and Mrs Wild, our Careers Advisor hosted our annual Post 16 Careers Evening for years 10 and 11. This was an opportunity for them to meet with employers, apprenticeship providers, colleges, and 6th Forms as they start to think about their future after Stradbroke.

The school production this year is “Rock of Ages” and rehearsals are already in full swing. Tickets will sell fast so when they are released ahead of the show in February, make sure you get yours ordered quickly to avoid disappointment.

It was lovely to invite our local primary schools in last week to take part in an English and Maths morning. Huge thanks to Miss Street and Mrs Wells for organising.

Year 10 also had a Space Masterclass morning which was an enormous success. I wonder if there are any future astronauts or astro physicists in our ranks! Mr Thomas and the year 11 Geographer’s had a successful fieldtrip visit and are now hard at work analysing the data they collected.

Year 11 will have their mock examinations a few weeks after we return from this break, and whilst it is important that they take some time to relax they also need to be completing revision. Small chunks of revision on a regular basis are the most effective way to revise. Completing past papers is also useful as it builds familiarity with exam language and paper layout. If anyone is unsure, please ask them to speak with their teachers who will be able to direct them to appropriate revision resources.

After half term there are some key dates to note: - Tuesday 5th November 6.00pm Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Award Parents’ Information Evening - Monday 11th – Friday 22nd November Year 11 Mock Examinations - Wednesday 4th December Year 11 Parents’ Evening - Wednesday 18th December Year 7 Panto Trip

I hope the break is restful and enjoyable for you all. I look forward to welcoming the students back to school on Monday 4th November.
